In conjunction with the HSV Paddlers Club, the Hot Springs Village POA Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce the 2024 Kayak Demo/Tryout Day.
Would you like to try kayaking to see if you enjoy it or upgrade to a higher-performance kayak? If so, you may be confused by all the types of kayaks available and may not know what type of boat to buy. If this is true, then this event is for you.
Kayak Demo/Tryout Day will be held at the Lake DeSoto Boat Launch Ramp on Saturday, April 13, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM.
There will be stable sit-on-top kayaks for novices to try and higher-performance sit-in kayaks for the more adventuresome paddlers to try.
Note: Tryout day is six days before the Watersport Swap Meet at Lake Coronado Boat Ramp.
Depending upon the number of participants and their interests, participants will likely be able to try out two or more kayaks (free) – for a period of about 20 minutes in each boat. All participants (and parents/legal guardians for minors) will be required to sign a POA Liability Waiver. Participants must be ten or older, and all must wear a PFD when on the water. The ability to swim 50 yards without a PFD is recommended for participants. The area to paddle includes the area in the bay of the Marina and within 100 ft. of the buoy at the mouth of the bay.
There will be a few kayaking consultants with bright-colored vests circulating in the area to help answer some of the questions you may have about kayaks, paddles, PFDs, and other kayaking accessories. These consultants may also be able to answer questions about entering and exiting kayaks, paddling techniques, and where to kayak.

*Potential inclement weather backup date: Sunday, April 14, 2024.

Where are you located? I’d like to find a kayak demo day to try different sea kayaks/ touring kayaks for 5’2″, 130 lbs… small paddler, 63 years old, need lightweight boat, however, I enjoy speed on lakes and some class one river paddling.
Thanks, lena
