Restoration Station – Adult and Teen Challenge of Arkansas
The Restoration Station, located at 1679 N Highway 7, Hot Springs, celebrated its Grand Reopening on June 24, 2022. The HSV Chamber of Commerce assisted in the celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Although the day was sweltering, it did not put a damper on the festivities. Outside there was a big slide and a bouncy house for the children, and hot dogs, chips, and bottled water were served to the guests.
Inside, the atmosphere was bright and welcoming, with much cooler temperatures. The organization has spent the past three months remodeling the interior but was able to stay open during the process. Some of the improvements include a dressing room and a couple of beautiful gallery walls. The woodshop workers used material from recycled wooden pallets to build a new checkout station and the lighting has been greatly improved, including some colored lights.
Furniture is arranged in small “room-like” areas and clothing is neatly organized and hung on the racks. There are also collector items, housewares, shoes, appliances, and a large variety of other items attractively arranged and available for sale.
All sales help to support the programs of Adult & Teen Challenge of Arkansas – a residential faith-based program for adult men who struggle with life-controlling problems. For more information about the program, visit their website: www.atcar.org
Executive Director, Stephen DeLorenzo, explained that they did not do the remodeling to increase profits but to provide a better setting to showcase nicer merchandise which includes restored and repurposed items.
He said, one of the goals of the organization is to teach life and employment skills to clients so they may obtain gainful and fulfilling employment. Most importantly, the goal is to show that God is bringing people to the center and showing them their value.
The Executive Director said Teen Challenge has a 78% success rate which means that over three-quarters of the clients don’t relapse, double the rate of what secular facilities achieve. He said, “If the clients leave running toward Jesus, that is our purpose.”
Adult and Teen Challenge has 2,000 global centers, with 200 of these located in the United States.
As mentioned above, the Restoration Station is located at 1679 N Highway 7, Hot Springs, AR 71909.
