In this edition of “Ask Matt,” Hot Springs Village Associate Director of Public Services Matt Broom answers a question about some recently performed road work on Maderas Drive.
Resident: I have been noticing quite a bit of work on Maderas Dr. lately. Most recently towards the end past Alteza Dr. Though appreciative of the new asphalt, the patches do not look up to standard and still have some bumps in it. Is this permanent or is more work taking place soon?
Matt: Thanks for the question. The work performed at the entrance of Maderas is a sealer to help preserve the outbound lane for a couple of more years. The work you are referring to is absolutely just temporary until major road construction takes place. The sub-base under Maderas is very poor and is unable to withstand the traffic loads. Any patchwork done will not last long, so it isn’t cost-effective to contract pavement repairs until we put a plan in place that addresses the sub-base. Our hope is that the asphalt applied will improve the driving experience while we plan and execute road and base reconstruction over the next two years.
