On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Hot Springs Village POA Board Meeting, Chair Joanie Corry proclaimed April 11 as Hot Springs Village World Parkinson’s Day. This day is to encourage community observance of the day and support to members of Hot Springs Village Support Group.

PROCLAMATION

HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE WORLD PARKINSON’S DAY

WHEREAS, World Parkinson’s Day take place on April 11th every year to raise awareness of Parkinson’s disease; and

WHEREAS, more than 10 million people worldwide are living with Parkinson’s, nearly one million people in the United States alone and that number is expected to rise to 1.2 million by 2030; and

WHEREAS, Parkinson’s is the second-most common neurodegenerative disease after Alzheimer’s disease and nearly 90,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease each year; and

WHEREAS, men are 1.5 times more likely to have Parkinson’s disease than women; and

WHEREAS, it is highly probable that everyone in Hot Springs Village knows someone who has Parkinson’s or is about to know someone recently diagnosed; and

WHEREAS, due to the demographics of Hot Springs Village and the relative ease of attending the Hot Springs Village Parkinson’s Support Group monthly meetings, the head of UAMS Neurology Department declared the Hot Springs Village Parkinson’s Support Group the largest and most socially active Parkinson’s support group in Arkansas; and

WHEREAS, the service provided by the Hot Springs Village Parkinson’s Support Group will continue to have a positive impact on our community and bring awareness to Parkinson’s disease;

I, JoAnne Corry, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Chairperson of the Board of Hot Springs Village Property Owners Association, do hereby proclaim April 11, 2024, as World Parkinson’s Day in Hot Springs Village and I hereby encourage our community to render support to the members of Hot Springs Village Parkinson’s Support Group and the entire Parkinson’s community to stand up to Parkinson’s by rising up and down from a chair to assist in a goal of 12,000 “stand-up-sit-downs” in observance to Worlds Parkison’s Day.
