Home Plate Café & Bakery, a longtime supporter and friend of Altrusa International of Hot Springs Village, AR, Inc., is helping the club in a big way in February.

First, the club is Home Plate’s “roundup” organization of the month for February. From February 1-29, patrons will be asked if they’d like to round up their dining tabs or their purchases at the newly opened (and popular!) bakery. Those extra coins will go to Altrusa, and the change adds up fast, usually into the hundreds.

Home Plate’s generous owners also gave the club a $500 donation as part of the club’s Valentine’s Extravaganza fundraiser. The third annual fundraiser, February 10, is an important fundraiser for Altrusa of HSV. It helps the club award scholarships to seniors at four area high schools who have maintained a 4.0 GPA and supports the club’s many other community projects, including scholarships for nontraditional nursing students at National Park College, Comfort Kits for sexual assault victims, free communitywide hearing screenings, dictionaries for third-grade students at area elementary schools and “Birthday Books” for Mountain Pine Elementary School students.

Home Plate won the Village Voice’s Readers’ Choice Award for Best All-Round Restaurant in February 2023 and is a finalist again this year (awards will be announced at a Chamber of Commerce banquet at the Coronado Community Center on February 20). On Tuesday nights this month, you’ll get a warm feeling when supporting Altrusa: The restaurant is offering a special Mardi Gras menu – try some gumbo or crawfish etouffee, sure to warm you up.

Altrusa of HSV is part of Altrusa International, a worldwide service organization founded in 1917. The HSV chapter has served the community since 2004.
