Rehearsals are wrapping up for the Hot Springs Concert Band as it makes final preparations for its Winter Concert on Tuesday, February 13th. Artistic Director and Principal Conductor Dr. Craig Hamilton begins the 2024 concert year in his 25th year with the band and has selected an excellent music repertoire for audience enjoyment.
Typically, Dr. Hamilton chooses some of the finest quality (and often the most challenging for the band) for the winter and spring concerts. This is one of the main reasons the band has improved over the years, drawing some excellent musicians into its ranks. This year is no exception, as the band is seeing growth both in young musicians and those who have had prolific careers as professionals and are now retiring but want to keep music an active part of their lives.
Those who attend this year’s winter concert can look forward to enjoying such music selections as “Sa Musica,” “Grace Praeludium,” “King Cotton,” Emperata Overture,” “Nimrod,” “Second Suite in F,” “The Fairest of the Fair,” “Hooray for Hollywood.” While this list may seem a bit short, some of these selections have more than one movement.
This year’s Winter Concert will be unusual in several respects. Namely, it will be held on a Tuesday rather than a Sunday, and it will be in the evening rather than the afternoon. It will be a special evening of music to share with a loved one or friend on this Valentine’s Day Eve. The starting time of 7:00 pm will provide ample time for concertgoers to make it home before late evening.
Concert tickets remain on sale at the Woodlands box office and can be purchased at www.hsvticketsales.com or from Hot Springs Concert Band members. The band hopes to see you at the concert this coming Tuesday evening, February 13, at the Woodlands Auditorium in Hot Springs Village.
