How do older and younger generations connect? One way is through family history, pictures and stories of those who have come before us, and events of significance that can be shared from one generation to the next. The Hot Springs Village Genealogical Society is a great club for bonding with friends and neighbors who share these interests. Members range from the curious beginner to expert researchers who can assist others in their personal journey of exploration into the past.
On the first Thursday of each month from September through May, there is a general meeting (2 pm, Room 6 Coronado Center) with planned programs and speakers on topics of interest such as research tools and skills, ways to work around “brick walls”, or special stories shared by members. On the second Thursday of each month from September through May (as time and requests allow) there is a small Members Helping Members work session for one on one assistance or expanded discussion of a topic from the general meeting. On the third Thursday of each month from January through December the club sponsors an informal breakfast meeting (9 am at Debra’s Restaurant on Carmona) for fun and fellowship where attendees can get to know each other better and discuss topics picked the previous month. If a family historian believes they have an ancestor who might meet qualifications for a specialty lineage society HSVGS can assist in getting basic information organized and then provide contacts with registrars of the appropriate society for confirmation and specialized proofs. The general and breakfast meetings are open to the public.
