Hot Springs Village POA Board adds working session
The Hot Springs Village Board of Directors has decided to convene two monthly public meetings. The Board is adding a working session on the first Wednesday of each month. The working session will be informal and not recorded.
The working session gives community and Board Members a heads-up on upcoming motions
The working session will better serve the community by allowing items that will be presented in formal motions at the regular board meetings to be introduced and discussed at the working session. This working session is the time for staff to present their intended motions but not necessarily have all the details confirmed. This will allow the community time to understand ahead of time what motions may be presented and considered at the regular board meeting.
Adding a working session also gives the Board Directors more time to fully vet upcoming motions to be formally presented at the regular board meetings. What has been transpiring is that the Board was given access to motions from staff on the Friday before the regular board meeting, which meant that Board Members had only four to five days to investigate and decide on numerous motions. The new system allows Board Members time for more thorough investigative actions and deliberation on important matters.
Community members are welcome at both meetings
The regular board meeting will continue to be held on the third Wednesday of each month. This meeting will be live-streamed and recorded. Recordings and live streams of this meeting are available on the Hot Springs Village POA OFFICIAL YouTube channel, which is located here. (Some committee meetings are also recorded and available on the POA YouTube channel.)
The first working session will be on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. The next regular board meeting will be on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. Both meetings will take place at the Ponce de Leon Center in the Ouachita Building at 9:00 a.m.
The community is invited to attend both public meetings.

Sounds good but will be useless unless community members are given ample opportunity to comment and discuss items with the board and staffers at these meetings. That’s the main problem with the regular board meetings. Community members are only given three minutes at the very end of the meeting and typically board members don’t respond or discuss the community member’s comments. This is the main reason why only very few members attend the BOD meetings.
Lots of good reasons for a Work Session, good to have them back. But they also need to be available on YouTube, there are more working owners than ever, and many out of area owners that would benefit.
I agree that the session should be recorded and made available on YouTube like it once was.
