Hot Springs Village is excited to announce that it will host the Arkansas State Senior Olympics for Archery this summer. Don’t miss your opportunity to win an Olympic medal and maybe boast a little to your grandchildren!
The Senior Olympics, or the National Senior Games, is a multi-sport event for athletes 50 and older. The competition is designed to promote healthy lifestyles and fitness among older adults. Archery is just one of over 20 categories available to Seniors.
The 2024 Arkansas Senior Olympics for Archery will be held on August 31, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hot Springs Village Archery Range. Archers will be divided into divisions by age and also shooting style.
Age groups begin at 50 and are in five-year increments, such as 50, 55, 60, and so on. There are classes for both men and women.
The shooting style divisions are:
- Compound Fingers
- Compound Release
- Barebow Compound
- Recurve
- Barebow Recurve
900 Round
The competition will be a 900 Round. For the 2024 Arkansas Senior Olympics, a 900-round is a type of target shooting competition where archers shoot 90 arrows at three different distances: 60, 50, and 40 yards. Each distance consists of 30 arrows. The scoring is based on the accuracy of the shots, with higher scores awarded for hitting closer to the center of the target, which is composed of a series of concentric rings. The maximum score per arrow is 10 points, resulting in a maximum possible score of 900 points for the entire round. It’s a popular format for both recreational and competitive archery. Mark Quinton, a retired 30-year Professional Archer with Hoyt Archery, is the event organizer and facilitator. Quinton enthused, “I am excited to see this concept finally come to fruition!”
