Scottish Heritage Celebration

HSV Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines

By Sharon Gardner

HSV Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines invites you to celebrate Scottish heritage on September 24th, 2023, at 10:00 a.m.   This delightful Scottish Heritage Celebration, called Kirkin’ O’ the Tartans, is periodically held at the Kirk in the Pines.

The Drum and Bagpipe Band from Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas, will be a part of the service.

What is a tartan?

A tartan is a brightly multiple-colored material woven in a check-like pattern and used to create the traditional Scottish kilt. The distinctive patterns are used to indicate the kinship of clans. It wasn’t only the men who proudly wore clothing made of tartan material. Women also participated in the tradition, wearing a garment made of tartan over their heads and around their shoulders. For several centuries, tartan clothing items were part of the daily dress of the Scottish Highlander.
