By Chuck Miller, also known as “The Traveling Guy”

I volunteer on the HSV Patriot Day Walk committee here in the village.  We are raising funds for the Tunnel2Towers Foundation, which was organized following the tragic events of 9/11.  Frank Siller, whose brother Stephen, an NYPD police officer who died while trying to save lives on 9/11, founded the foundation.  The foundation raises funds to pay off mortgages or build homes all over the country for surviving families of veterans, police officers, firefighters, etc., who have lost their lives or have been severely injured.  Google Tunnel2Towers to learn more about this wonderful organization.

On 9/11, we will have a one-mile walk from 8:00 AM to Noon at Grove Park here in the village.  Proceeds from the walk and donations from village residents, businesses, friends and families, etc., will be donated to the Tunnel2Towers Foundation. Our goal is to raise at least $9,000.  The cost to participate in the walk is a mere $11.00.  During the walk, entertainment will be provided the Livin the Dream Band, Treble in the Village, and Voices Rising.

You can help us reach our goal by clicking on the link below, which will take you to our website where you can make a donation.   If you plan to walk on 9/11, when you enter your donation, please indicate by putting a W after your name. Click here to visit the Hot Springs Village Patriot Day Walk website.

If you prefer to send a check, you can make it out to Tunnel2Towers. Please contact me by email at Chuck@TheTravelingGuy.com to get my mailing address.

On August 11, one month before the walk, Rachel Scrimshire, widow of Hot Springs police officer Brent Scrimshire, who died in the line of duty, will speak at 11:00 AM at the Woodlands Auditorium about the foundation and how the foundation has helped her and her family.

To promote Rachel’s presentation and the walk, The Village Voice will be running articles; Tracy Simpson and KVRE will air Take 5 interviews; signs will be posted on all the village trails; members of the committee will be visiting organizations in the village; and emails similar to this one will be going out to friends and families asking for them to participate in the walk and/or make a donation.

Please don’t hesitate to email me at Chuck@TheTravelingGuy.com with any questions.

Many, many thanks for considering my request.
