Get ready to Blast Off on HSV Rotary’s “Writers, Rockets, and Rock” travel extravaganza bus trip departing to Huntsville and the Shoals in northern Alabama on Thursday, October 12, 2023, and returning on Sunday evening, October 15. We will be traveling back in time to relive those exciting days of rocketing “to the moon” and back, rocking out to great sounds from the King, classic rock, rhythm & blues, and pop stars, and rekindling memories of great stories from “The Miracle Worker” and Nobel Prize winner Wm Faulkner.
The trip will start with a champagne breakfast send-off early on Thursday, October 12, including stops in Oxford at Rowan Oak, home of William Faulkner, and Tupelo, Mississippi, at Elvis’s birthplace. Travelers will hunker down in Huntsville that evening at the Hyatt Place Hotel, our home base for the following days.
On the schedule for the next two days are a tour of a Frank Lloyd Wright home, a visit to the famous Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, a stop at the Ivy Green Helen Keller home, Alabama Music Hall of Fame, a Huntsville city tour, the US Space & Rocket Center, the Huntsville Botanical Garden, and the Burritt-on-the-Mountain living history homestead.
Of course, there will be plenty of food and fun with lunches, including the Rattlesnake Saloon and the Garden View Café, and dinners at Waltons Southern Table and Bravos in the Bridge Street Entertainment District.
The fun continues on the return trip on Sunday, October 15, with a stopover in Corinth Mississippi at the Shiloh National Park Civil War Interactive Center.
The all-inclusive cost, including luxury coach transportation, dining, lodging, and all attractions, is $860 per person (double occupancy). Single occupancy is available for an additional $240. Seats are still available, so contact us now for more information on reserving a spot by emailing wrightsk2@gmail.com.
