As most of you are aware, a recent traffic accident demolished the West Gate entry sign in Hot Springs Village. Here is a link to the article detailing what happened. Hot Springs Villager, Brad Beaumont, shared with us his vision for a new West Gate sign.
Beaumont said, “This is my idea of what the new sign should look like. – a lower profile, simpler design. The cover image is the old sign edited. I don’t like the letters, maybe we could come up with some better-looking ones. But I do like the Ouachita stones because many homes in the Village also use the same stones.”
Please comment in the comment section and let us know if you like the idea of a lower-profile sign at the West Gate.
I like the idea of a large metal bronze deer with West Hot Springs Viilage sign right below statue.
Not so much stone, maybe just small wall in front and behind deer. Nice landscaping, too.
I like the way the sign was before bending fenders, but I can understand the need to keep the cost down. I like the idea of reusing as much of the old stonework as we can in the new sign too. I hope the drivers’ insurance company can help with a PL&PD claim payoff?
Frankly I like the entrance at the east gate with the HSV signs on each side of the drive instead of the middle.
Personally I think it would be too low to the ground. Any plants would impinge upon the view as they grow and I think a barren area in that median would be ugly. The letters should stat at least 2 ft off the ground s small plantings could be around the sign. The gates set the tone and expectations for people. Think about when you drive past subdivisions or gated communities entrances and what assumptions you make about the area.
I personally like the lower profile sign. I with the previous poster who encouraged a codification of signage and font types. The Village needs some branding updating.
I am sure the driver of the vehicle had insurance and the sign will be replaced as per specs of the previous sign. Right?
Any thoughts on this?
The sign that was in place was fine. It did not impede your vision unless you were planning on driving over the island to go back through the entrance. It was attractive and showed our property name with dignity. It was large enough for anyone to see unless they were just not paying attention. Don’t change things that don’t need to be changed. Put brighter letters or more lighting but leave the design as it was.
The original was of the proper size. Newcomers on a busy Rt. 7 will have no trouble seeing and recognizing just exactly where they
are. There are lots of business signs in that area along with street signs, traffic lights, and enough distractions to lose track of one’s
location . Changing to a “low profile” presentation when people may be catching only quick glances of their surroundings helps no
one.
We just have to keep those Lincolns under control and their drivers more alert.
I think it looks good. Not imposing, but easy to see and compliments the surrounding landscape. Thank you for your time and for sharing.
The old sign was too big. It impeded the view of drivers at a busy intersection. I like the proposal to lower the profile of the sign.
Looks good! Looked fine before as well. Our plea is to please harmonize the signage sizing, color and font throughout the Village. We have yellow on brown street signs still, white on brown, small “Come Back Soon!” at Danville Gate, seemingly larger at East Gate and a Ginormous sign marking the Waste Treatment Facility on Cortez off Barcelona. Would East and West Gates have same font and branding or different? We already have at least two maybe three fonts in use. Whatever the Committee and Community prefers is fine, but please establish the brand, harmonize all the signage sizing, font and colors affordably and then stick with it for twenty years or so. We have been here only since 2009 and this is the third potential update? The second wasn’t finished Village wide….we may still have one type at one end of the street and a different on the other end? Sooooo… matchy, matchy please?
Looks good in the picture because it is an up close shot. Looking past the sign you can tell it is below the shrubbery so it wouldn’t be seen which would be an expense for nothing.
Thank you for commenting, Danny. This image was just a photoshop image of an idea. It was not done with any calculations as to the best placement or size.
so true….too small….
I like the proposed sign for its more updated look. It’s actually a more refreshing first look at HSV.
