Changes in our abilities, lifestyles, and relationships are inevitable, particularly as we age. These changes often include the need to become a caregiver or perhaps accept the difficult role of being a receiver. To help address these needs and provide available resources, the Kirk Christian Education Committee will hold a “Caring for Ourselves and Others” Workshop on seven consecutive Wednesday mornings from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Presbyterian Kirk in the Pines in Hoffius Hall, the lower level of the building, beginning April 19th. Kirk in the Pines is at 275 Asturias Drive, Hot Springs Village. Light refreshments will be served.
Presenters will include Kirk Elder Ben Meek, a former certified marriage and family therapist; Dr. Sally Fittsizer, a retired UAMS professor and Arkansas AARP volunteer speaker; Kathy Packard, Executive Director of the Oaklawn Center on Aging; and Jason Clenney, Area Manager for Arkansas Hospice.
Topics covered in the workshop include adjusting to change, caring for ourselves while caring for others, brain health, special challenges of dementia care, dispelling the fear of hospice and palliative care, and rebuilding your life after caregiving.
