On December 18, 2024, James (Buzz) Carpenter, Trails Committee Chairman, presented the committee’s semi-annual report to the HSV Board of Directors.

Committee Ensures Safety and Maintenance

Carpenter said that the Trails Committee has continued to ensure the trails are maintained and safe. We monitor them every month and report any issues.”

Work Days

Planned work days include Cedar Creek bench repair and Cooper Preserve debris removal. These work days will be posted in the Digest. Carpenter stated, “If you want to come out and help, we always appreciate everybody’s help.”

Events

Carpenter shared that all events since the last update were well attended and lots of fun. In July, they hosted a 5K with around 100 participants, including families. They also had a Wine and Cheese Full Moon Paddle, a Full Moon Hike, and a Mountain Bike Event. The mountain bikers had such an enjoyable time that they requested more mountain bike events. Additionally, there were around 23 participants in the Marathon/Half Marathon event.

There are updated trailhead signs featuring maps and QR codes that link to information on maps, flowers, trees, and upcoming trail events. Expect to see the new signs soon.

New Year’s Hike

The Trails Committee’s next event is the New Year’s Hike, scheduled for January 3rd at noon at the Balboa Trail Head.

Location: Balboa Spillway Trail Head

Date: Friday, January 3

Time: 12 PM

Carpenter invited, “Come out and enjoy our fabulous trail system!”
