Over the past two years, the Village Big Band has welcomed several talented musicians outside our community. They have made a huge difference in the Band’s sound and in the variety of selections the Band now presents.
And the Big Band isn’t their only opportunity to play! Several Band members also play with the Hot Springs Concert Band (whose Spring Concert at the Woodlands was this past Sunday, April 21). Several members of Little Rock’s Jubilation Jazz are now part of the VBB. The members of Jubilation Jazz are all accomplished musicians. This band consists of Band Directors, retired Band Directors, retired Military Musicians, and other professional musicians. Members come from all over the state of Arkansas, and some even travel from neighboring states to perform with Jubilation Jazz. These musicians donate their time, travel expenses, and musical abilities for one reason – To share The Good News, God’s message, in an entertaining Big Band Jazz format. VBB is enriched beyond words by their willingness to travel to HSV to be part of our Band.
Let’s not forget our “oldies but goodies.” HSV’s Donna Morton, Jerry Jamrich, Hal Thompson, Jim Kelly, and others are still groovin’ with the Band after all these years! It is quite a blend of very fine musicians.
You can see and hear what the Band has in store at our next “Block Party at Balboa Pavilion,” Friday, May 10, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at . . . Balboa Pavilion Hot Springs Village. This is a free event with a love offering gratefully accepted. Bring your coolers and your lawn chairs, or just come as you are and enjoy some great music in all genres played in that unforgettable Big Band style.
