Did you know that your Village Walk for Cancer Research team does much more than its annual walk on the last Saturday in September? You may have seen members of the team outside Walmart a couple of weeks ago, or at the recent HSV Area Chamber Business Expo. Another way the team supports cancer research is by presenting a luncheon event called a “DocTalk.” The speaker is usually one of the recipients of the grants given by VWFCR with the proceeds from the prior year’s walk.
The next presentation will be on Friday June 14 at Diamante Country Club beginning at 11:30 a.m. This event’s speaker is Dr. Michael Birrer, Director of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, who will talk about recent research breakthroughs. UAMS was indeed one of our 2023 grant recipients. Included will be a presentation on the groundbreaking proton therapy being used at UAMS to treat many hard to treat cancers, and cancers in children as well.
If you are new to HSV or have never participated in our walk or other events, this is a great opportunity to get to know your Cancer Walk team and get a feel for what the grant dollars are doing. The event is free of charge and a light luncheon will be served. As seating is limited, please register by visiting our website, www.walkforcancerresearch.org, clicking on EVENTS, then following the easy registration instructions. Or, please call event co-ordinator Melanie Pederson at (608) 692-0458.
