We take them for granted – until they don’t work. And then we want them fixed as soon as possible. After all, we pay our assessments to make sure things work, right?
Maintaining village infrastructure is key to our comfort and standard of living. But what if all of these basic essentials require repair at the same time? How do we decide what to repair, when to repair something, how to repair something, and, most important of all – how to pay for repairs? These are the questions faced by the Hot Springs Village Public Services Department and public advisory committee continuously.
But Public Services responsibilities don’t stop at repairing infrastructure. Responsibilities also include planning for infrastructure improvements to handle future needs, finding better and less expensive ways to repair and build our infrastructure, meeting state and federal health guidelines and construction standards, and, most importantly, ensuring the best use of villager funds.
The Public Services budget comprises the most significant percentage of the overall Hot Springs Village budget. As such, it requires diligent and innovative budgetary oversight to ensure that HSV is getting the biggest bang for its buck. It also takes a committee of interested villagers to assist the Public Services Department make timely and solid decisions.
Right now, there is an opening on the Public Services Committee. Ideally, a candidate would have a background in engineering or construction, but it’s not necessary. What is most important is an interest in how our infrastructure works, what the future holds, and how our funds are spent. These openings represent an opportunity to make a real difference in your community.
If you are interested in joining the Public Services Committee, applications are available here and can be submitted via email to jwhite@hsvpoa.org or in person at the HSVPOA Administration Building, 895 DeSoto Boulevard, attention Julie White, Assistant to the General Manager.
