Logging of Hot Springs Village tornado-ravaged areas concludes, but restoration efforts continue.

The Hot Springs Village POA emailed Villagers on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, detailing the continued restoration efforts for tornado-ravaged areas. The email stated:

“Logging the downed trees within the tornado areas has officially ended. The final numbers come in at approximately 12,300 tons of timber removed. That equates to roughly 410 log truckloads that no longer litter the impacted neighborhoods. The revenue received for this timber is minimal but will aid in continued restoration efforts. The savings from having loggers engaged, however, are substantial. The estimated cost to have those trees removed by a contractor would be over $750,000.00.

“The POA is committed to continue cleaning up, likely well into 2025. Clean-up will include the following:

  • Severely leaning/damaged trees will be dropped to the ground.
  • Large treetops will be slashed so that they lie on the ground.
  • Designated root balls will either be hauled away, leaned up-right, or moved out of sight. Not all root balls will be addressed.
  • Debris in piles on the roadside will be hauled away (through the remainder of 2024).
  • The ditches will be cleaned/reestablished and the POA culverts will be cleaned out.
  • The road will be either swept or blown off and damaged pavement will be repaired.
  • Damaged street signs will be replaced and damaged utilities such as streetlights and cable boxes will be reported to the providers.

“This week, our in-house Street Department will go through Orense Way to perform the above work. Our crew will soon go through the Reata Way, Viscara Way, Burgos Way, and Orense Circle. We will also have a contractor engaged two days per week to assist with right-of-way cleaning and debris pile removal left by residents. The Street Dept will not work more than one day per week, due to their normal responsibilities.

Residents impacted by the tornado are permitted to perform their own clean-up around homes and can place the debris in piles by the roadside. Residents participating in this joint effort can contact the Public Works Department or via an online form to inform us that piles are ready for pick up. The POA will accommodate this service for the remainder of 2024.
