In this edition of “Ask Matt,” Hot Springs Village Associate Director of Public Services Matt Broom answers a question about cardboard recycling in Hot Springs Village.
Resident: I noticed some changes at the Minorca facility this week, especially how we can dispose of cardboard. Is the POA just now recycling the cardboard? It was my understanding that we have been for a while with the “cardboard only” dumpsters.
Matt: Yes, the POA Sanitation Department recently started an official cardboard recycling operation. We invite all residents to bring their cardboard to the Minorca facility and drop it off in the collection bin. The previous setup with the dumpsters was just an easier way to throw the cardboard away, but it still ended up with our normal waste which cost the Village high disposal fees. We have refurbished our old baler and have lined out buyers for the cardboard we collect. The Village can now sell the cardboard instead of paying to have it dumped in the landfill.
