We know the time is short to help, and we apologize for the brief time remaining. Elmer and Rita Walker hope Villagers can assist in their efforts to help those impacted by recent hurricanes. Elmer, a five-year volunteer with No Town Left Behind will deliver much-needed supplies to those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

At the time this article went to press, at least 251 people lost their lives by the devasting forces of Hurricane Helene, and 24 folks perished in the destruction of Hurricane Milton. The death toll is expected to rise in both disasters. Many people lost everything, as homes, vehicles, and even people floated away due to the carnage caused by Helene. Whole towns are gone. Milton also had a heavy impact, as catastrophic winds and rain demolished many homes and businesses. Countless homes and businesses did not carry flood insurance. A separate policy for flooding is purchased through the Federal government.

Many of those lucky enough to have a home are still without electricity.

The items needed are:

  • Toilet paper
  • Bottled water
  • Paper towels
  • Canned goods with pull tops
  • Dry pet food
  • Disinfectant and cleaning supplies
  • Gas cans

Items may be dropped off at 2:42 Ministries (Pastor Lavon Winkler), 103 Ponferrada Way from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15 through Thursday, October 17.

Elmer plans to load his 18-foot trailer and make his way on Friday morning, October 18, stopping first in North Carolina and then proceeding to Florida. The emergency responders at No Town Left Behind have planned his route.

Residents in Hot Springs Village have always been known for their exemplary volunteer service. HSV is the only city designated as a 1000 Points of Light Community, although many organizations and individuals have received this prestigious honor. “In his 1989 inaugural address, the 1000 Points of Light founder, President George H.W. Bush shared his vision of “a thousand points of light” — individuals and organizations across the nation helping others through service. Today, Points of Light transcends politics and borders to inspire millions worldwide.”

Thank you in advance for your kindness, generosity, and good-will.
