Altrusa International of Hot Springs Village, AR, Inc. was Village True Value Home Center and Building Supply’s “roundup” organization of the month for January, and it was a very good month for business.
The home center collected almost $394 in change when patrons decided to round up their sales receipts, with the extra coins going to support Altrusa’s many community service projects. True Value then added $250 to that amount and recently presented a check to Club President Melanie Pederson for $644.
True Value started “roundups” about five years ago to benefit community organizations and, in addition to Altrusa, has donated to Cedar Mountain Boys & Girls Club, Kiwanis HSV, Ouachita Children’s Center, HSV’s Animal Welfare League, Make A Wish, the Walk for Cancer Research, Hope Fur Paws Rescue, HSV Police Department, HSV Audubon Society, Knights of Columbus, Abilities Unlimited of Hot Springs and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
As one of its community projects in March, True Value is sponsoring an Easter egg hunt for children, using plastic eggs filled with treats. The event will take place from 3-6 p.m. March 23 in the baseball fields behind the Cedar Mountain Boys & Girls Club with different hunts for three age categories. Kids from HSV, Jessieville, Fountain Lake, and Mountain Pine are invited. We’ve heard a rumor the Easter Bunny might make a surprise appearance. True Value’s donation will help the Altrusa of HSV award scholarships to seniors at area high schools who have maintained a 4.0 GPA and support the club’s many other projects, including scholarships for nontraditional nursing students at National Park College, Comfort Kits for sexual assault victims, free communitywide hearing screenings, dictionaries for third-grade students at area elementary schools and “Birthday Books” for Mountain Pine Elementary School students.
