In this edition of “Ask Ken,” Hot Springs Village POA Public Services Director Ken Unger answers a property owner’s question about the pump in his sanitary sewer constantly running during heavy rainfall.
Resident: I hear the pump in the tank outside my house run every time it rains. Is that normal? If not, what should I do?
Ken: If you have a tank outside your house, that is most likely your sanitary sewer tank. If the pump in your tank is constantly running when it rains heavily, it’s likely that rainwater is getting into your tank. When the sewer tanks are installed, they are placed above ground and out of drainage areas to avoid this from happening. Homeowners sometimes landscape around the tanks or redirect drainage ditches over top of them when landscaping their yards. This is not a good situation for your sewer tank/pump or our sewer system, as we are then forced to carry that stormwater through our sanitary sewer system and pay to process that water at our sewer plant. This drives up costs for you as homeowners, such as higher electric bills to run the pump and higher costs for the POA in operating our sanitary sewer system. If you notice this occurring, please get in touch with the POA via our online form
located at https://www.explorethevillage.com/services/public-services or call us at 501-922-5524 and we will come out to determine what needs to happen to correct the situation. I hope this helps. Thanks!
