We are delighted to invite you to join us on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 7:00 p.m. at the Woodlands Auditorium for the third installment of Movie Night at The Woodlands. The evening’s feature presentation will be “The Way,” inspirationally written by Emilio Estevez in his vineyard, Casa Dumetz, and starring his father, Martin Sheen. Estevez’s real-life son, Taylor, served as an associate producer on the film.

The Way

“The Way,” a 2010 film directed by Estevez, follows the journey of a grieving father who embarks on the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain to honor his late son’s memory.

The Camino de Santiago, also known as the Way of St. James, is an age-old pilgrimage route that dates back to medieval times. Comprising an extensive network of pathways, the goal is to reach the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral, where tradition holds that the final resting place of the Apostle Saint James the Great lies within its walls.

The movie delves into themes of loss, grief, redemption, and personal transformation. As the protagonist grapples with his grief, he finds solace and healing along his pilgrimage. Set in the stunning landscape of the Camino de Santiago, the outstanding cinematography delivers breathtaking views of the countryside and picturesque villages along the pilgrimage route.

Shot in 40 days with a small crew and available light, the cast and crew conquered approximately two hundred miles of the trek when filming. Apart from the primary actors, the individuals appearing on screen are actual pilgrims hailing from various corners of the globe.

The film is praised for its authentic portrayal of the Camino experience, capturing the pilgrimage’s camaraderie, challenges, and spiritual significance. The attention to detail and the portrayal of the cultural and religious aspects of the journey add to the film’s realism and appeal.
